Today me and my parther did a Maths DLO. It shows what we have learned in Maths and it about multiplication addition. This DLO has steps to it showing how easy it is to understand multiplication addition.

LI: To understand how scientists discover, record and learn from fossils.

Our challenge was to become a palaeontologist who uncovered a rare dinosaur egg fossil. We used Adobe Express to reimagine what a real find might look like. After a quick research challenge about habitat we used that information to create our image. My partner and I found the skeleton of a Iguanodon. Two interesting fact that I have found out about my dinosaur fossils are that a Iguanodon could grow up to 30-36 feet tall and it is 9 to 11 meters long. Iguanodons was one of the first dinosaurs ever discovered and named, and its name means “Iguana tooth” because its teeth resembled those of modern Iguanas.
This task was fun because it had helped me learn more about dinosaurs and what specific species my dinosaur was and what it does .
I had fun learning about the Iguanodon because it reflects the past and it shows what dinosaur fossils looked like when the paleontologists found it.
LI: to identify the key historical context and events related to the Polynesian Panthers and the Dawn Raids as depicted in the graphic novel.

For today’s reading learning activity, we learnt about another connection between the present and the past about the Polynesian Panthers. Me and my reading group read a fiction book about the Polynesian Panthers called “Once a Panther”. Some of the information I learnt is the story of the Dawn Raids between the Government and the Polynesian Panthers. Reading the text added to my prior knowledge that I have learnt from the 2 previous texts connected the history of the Polynesian Panthers.
LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.
Our challenge was to create a DLO that tells others about the dinosaur we found when we excavated our dinosaur eggs. My group and I found the skeleton of a Triceratops what I found out is that a Triceratops has a tiny brain. Something I found interesting was that Triceratops is 3 meters and 10 feet tall.
LI:To write a multi verse cinquain poem that describes the journey of a sleeping maunga that erupts
We have been exploring cinquain poems. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose.
Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives that describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes.
Something I found interesting about this was that we can make a unqie story just by using some of these powerful words.
LI: To create a 50 word statement by explaing what is a paleontologist and what do they do?
Our challenge was to create a 50 word statement that tells us what paleontology is and what palaontologists do. We found out that a Paleontologist is someone who studies the history of the life before us and shows the remain of the living things from centuries ago.I found this task hard because we can only write 50 words and that’s pretty hard to write all of your ideas and to count to see if you got it correct.
Before we take part in our own dinosaur dig LS2 were challenged to capture the story behind Mary Anning, a pioneering fossil hunter and paleontologist during the early 19th century.
Something I learnt was that she was famous for finding the complete body fossil of the Icthyosaurus. I found this activity fun as we can learn more about dinosaurs and the findings of Mary Anning.
For inquiry we are learning about dinosaurs, paleontologists and different types of fossils. We have learnt about body and trace fossils. Something I have learnt about trace fossils is that they are preserved remains of the ancient animals.
LI: To discuss the impact of volcanoes on the environment and human
Today me and my group made a DLO telling us everything about Whakaari White Island. Whakaari is a volcano that erupted in 2019. Before Whakaari erupted people were not allowed to visit the island. People also said that there was a helicopter buried in the thick ash and there was 90 people killed during the eruption because of the toxic gas the volcano was spitting out.

Today our math group made a Google draw telling us about a place holder and why it helps us to maintain the correct place value in calculating a multiplication question.
