Procedural Text

LI: To create a procedural text to tell someone how to do something using a  sequence of  steps, instructions or actions in a particular order.

Our challenge was to work in our dinosaur research pairs create a prototype of our dinosaur’s skeleton. The challenge was to make the skeleton of our dinosaur and record the steps we followed. Once we had our first prototype we revised and adapted both the prototype and the instructions

We used the language features found in a procedural text to help us write clear instructions so that another pair could follow our instructions and create our prototype.

I think this activity was fun because we go to caern our Procedurl Text.

Mt Fuji

LI:To write a multi verse cinquain poem that describes the journey of a sleeping maunga that erupts

We have been exploring cinquain poems. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose.

Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives that describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes.

Something I found interesting about this was that we can make a unqie story just by using some of these powerful words.

Why Maungarei Sleeps?

For Writing LS2 wrote a pourqoui story that is related to Maungarei. We learnt how to use puncuation and capital letter Skimming and scanning all the words we used all the time and go on wordhippo to find another word to put in our story. A pourqoui story is basically a story is telling you why or what it is about. We organize all of the words we wrote and make it into a whole story combining it together to create a perfect story. After we created the pourquoi we went straight to Adobe Express to created the image of a volcano. We copied and paste each paragraph from the story and put it into the (Describe what you like to see) box to generate a photo you want.

Back ,far back,in the mists of time when the world was very young there was a mountain. It was a very sleepy mountain. The mountain was named Maungarei. Everyone was distant because they didn’t want to make her angry so they let her rest rather than waking her up. As days passed on she was resting, then out of nowhere someone woke her up. It wasn’t one the mountains that woke her. It was strange because it was coming from the earth’s surface and as each mountain whispered to one another. When Maungarei woke up they knew that they had to be careful because of how stubborn she was and as well as everyone was trying to find out which area of the earth’s surface made that loud noise suddenly another noise came up they figured. It was the village that tried stopping the village but the villagers thought that was a blessing from god so they started singing to the sky which made Maungarei feel annoyed and as rage filled her heart. She started to erupt when out of nowhere smoke came out and some of the villagers started to run because they thought it wasn’t safe considering that some may have been counghing while smelling the smoke. Others run because of their safety and their children’s safety and as the lava came out they realized it wasn’t safe at all when Maungarei stopped there was nothing left or anyone left, Now she was lonely because she was the only one that survived the eruption and sadly the other mountains did not survive the eruption. As her anger started to wear off she slowly realized what she had done. As time passed on things slowly began to grow, nature started to grow evern more and animals, humans started to come on to the island. Things became normal but everyone knew the ancient which gives more of an intense fear towards Maungarei. Some may believe that something larger had cost the ancient but people who survived konw much more to what happened. As life goes on this story gets told to many humans as it shows what happens when you are in fury and you become unhappy towards someone or something that did’t work out for you.

Ancestor Poem

LI: to write a poem to describe your ancestors and the legacy they left behind.

LI: to use the literary devices of alliteration, onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile, hyperbole and rhyme.

For our writing learning, our class learnt how to write poems about their ancestors using several different languages including: metaphor, rhyme, simile, hyperbole, alliteration and onomatopoeia. The instructions we were given to do this poem activity was to gather some past photos of ourselves, use some images from searching, use digital portrait, and to use some personal information about ourselves, including using wordhippo. Above here my ancestor poem.

I found this activity very emotional and interesting because this activity brings back flashbacks of when I was a junior, but at the same time I was interested and that my curiousity kept me thinking more about my ancestors past and how it was like when my ancestors were here.

Smaule Marsden Podcast

For Literacy we have been using our Inquiry knowledge to help us write questions that we might have asked Reverend Samuel Marsden had we had the chance to meet him and talk to him. This was a fun activity because we took on the roles of Samuel Marsden and the Time Traveller’s Podcast team. It was like we experienced actually meeting him.

We learned that when you are recording a podcast expression is everything! It makes what we have to say more engaging.

Photos Story

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling

For this activity we made a storytelling collage using photos we took during our walk to the tamaki river. We made the photos in sequence to describe the timeline. After our trip to the Tamaki river we made a podcast using hotseat.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

Our challenge today was to write and record our pepeha to introduce ourselves.

I found this very fun and inseteing becauseI found out that my ancetors came in 1926.

Persuasive Language Features

LI: to explore the language features of a persuasive text.

This term we have been learning about persuasive writing to help us prepare for the school speech competition, that will be happening later in this term. Persuasive writing is used when you want to make others think like you, and have the same opinion as you. We were looking closely at the language features used in a persuasive text. I have chosen to share the persuasive language feature of emotive language. I think authors use this language feature to make others feel what they are feeling by using emotions. In a persuasive writing piece, you should have reasons and evidence, to show why your opinion is correct.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt different language features that can be used in persuasive writing.

Rewrite but don’t use

LI: to use a wider variety of vocabulary

Today we learned about rewrite but don’t use.

We have to pick our pairs and we have to get one writing and chrome book, We have to rewrite and can’t use letter like E. We have to write into our book and other have to find a work means the same word and it is called wordhippo. We have to dlo about the rewrite and we use sound recorder to voice the original and our text.

I enjoy this activity because it was hard if you find the same word.
